Fred Lee, Jr. MD - Company Founder, & Vice Chair of Radiology - University of Wisconsin Madison
Dr. Lee is the Robert Turrel Professor of Medical Imaging, an abdominal radiologist and Senior Vice Chair of the Department of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and an expert in the field of tumor ablation. Dr. Lee is the founder of the clinical and research tumor ablation program at UW Madison, one of the first such programs in the USA. As an early pioneer in the field of tumor ablation, Dr. Lee has enjoyed extensive NIH and industry extramural support and has published on all aspects of thermal ablation products and techniques. He is the lead inventor and patent holder on the commercially available FDA cleared RF Switching ControllerTM (Covidien, Boulder, CO). Dr. Lee co-founded the International Tumor Ablation Working Group, the first worldwide forum for physicians interested in tumor ablation.
Daniel van der Weide, PhD - Company Founder & Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering, UW Madison
Dr. van der Weide is an expert in the field of high frequency circuitry, terahertz electronics, near-field imaging and sensing cell growth. His work in these areas has earned him numerous grants from the NIH, DOD and industry. Dr. van der Weide was recently made a Vilas Associate at UW Madison and is the recipient of the Office of Naval Research, Young Investigator Program award as well as the National Science Foundation PECASE award, that foundation's highest award given to young scientists. Dr. van der Weide and Dr. Lee co-founded NeuWave (then Micrablate) in 2004, and have collaborated on numerous publications, inventions, patents, and grants.
John Murphy - President & CEO NDS Surgical Imaging
Mr. Murphy has an extensive background in executive management as President and CEO of California based NDS Surgical Imaging. Mr. Murphy contributes strong operating experience having led both publically traded and privately held companies. Prior to joining NDS Surgical Imaging, Mr. Murphy was President and CEO at Celerity, Inc (a TPG portfolio company) as well as Corporate EVP and COO of PerkinElmer, Inc, a role that focused on Life and Analytical Sciences as well as Optoelectronics. Mr. Murphy has held Vice President and General Management roles at Honeywell International and Allied Signal. Mr. Murphy holds a Bachelor of Science in Computing Science from University of Greenwich in London, a Master's of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from University of Chicago and an MBA in International Finance from Arizona State University.
Scott Button - Managing Director, Venture Investors
Mr. Button leads the Venture Investors technology practice where he focuses on investments in engineering and physical sciences, energy technologies and medical devices. Mr. Button has twelve years of venture capital experience and six years of operating experience. Mr. Button created the Venture Igniter program, an entrepreneur-in-residence program designed to create technology start-ups from the University of Wisconsin Madison. Mr. Button serves on several Boards of Directors including Soft Switching Technologies, Alfalight, Pattern Insight and previously Virent Energy Systems. Mr. Button holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from UW Madison and an MBA from University of Chicago.
Laura G King - President & CEO
Ms. King is President and CEO of NeuWave Medical, a Madison, WI based company that develops and commercializes energy based minimally invasive medical devices. Ms. King possesses significant executive level operating experience, having led multiple GE businesses both in the US and globally. Prior to joining NeuWave Medical, Ms. King was a GE company officer while leading the $1.2 B Global Interventional Cardiology and Surgery business. Prior to this, she ran GE Mammography, where she made the decision to invest in the first digital mammography system, revolutionizing mammography and enabling improved breast cancer detection. Ms. King has core expertise in strategy, finance, operations as well as new product introduction. Raised in San Francisco, CA, she is a graduate of UC Davis in Economics.
